Three women and a cake

At its regular June meeting, the Watervliet Public Schools Board of Education was pleased to recognize four outstanding staff members who are retiring at the end of the 2022-23 school year --  Mrs. Lisa Graffenius, Mr. Brad Hessler, Mrs. Kathy Marvin, and Ms. Lori Romeo.  The four have served our students for a combined 101 years, and their absence from our buildings and classrooms will certainly be felt.  Each retiree was presented with a Golden Apple by Board President Bill Spaulding and Superintendent Ric Seager in appreciation for their years of service to the District.

  • Mrs. Lisa Graffenius is retiring after 30 years of service with Watervliet Schools. During her time she served as a teacher in grades 1, 2, and 4.

  • Ms. Lori Romeo is retiring after 22 years with WPS. She taught students in third grade for her entire tenure with Watervliet Schools. Additionally, she served as the advisor/director for several extracurricular programs.

  • Mrs. Kathy Marvin is retiring after serving for 26 years as a paraprofessional at North Elementary.

  • Mr. Brad Hessler is retiring from Watervliet Schools after serving for 23 years as a Middle School Social Studies teacher, coach, and advisor.

We wish Lisa, Brad, Kathy, and Lori nothing but the best in whatever directions life now leads them.  They have each made an enormous impact, and they will be missed by students and staff alike.
