WHS Senior Ella Shaffer has been selected as the First Chair tenor saxophone for Western Michigan University's All-Michigan School Band event on Thursday, April 13.
An all-star ensemble will be created as part of the 53rd annual Spring Conference on Wind and Percussion Music hosted by WMU’s Irving S. Gilmore School of Music. The 120-member David Biedenbender All-Star Band will perform in Miller Auditorium.
Band directors from 42 Michigan high schools submitted nominations for those who will play in this ensemble. The Biedenbender All-Star Band will be conducted by Dr. Scott Boerma, Director of Bands at Western Michigan University, and Dr, Trey Harris, Associate Director of Bands.
Nominated students must audition to be considered. Professors from the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music selected those who will have the opportunity to participate in this all-star ensemble. This is the second year Ella has been selected to participate, and her first to be awarded the honor of First Chair.
