After an extensive search and interview process this Winter, Watervliet Public Schools has hired Joseph Berthold as its new Director of Finance.

Joe comes to WPS from the private sector where he has worked in commercial banking for the last 15 years.  He holds a Master's Degree in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and has an exemplary work history, particularly in account management and accounting administration.

Joe started his tenure at WPS in mid-February.  His strengths in accounting and his temperament made it clear that Joe would be a great fit at WPS, and he jumped right in and is already doing a great job for the district.

Joe lives in the Mattawan area and his three children are in 2nd, 5th, and 7th grade.  His wife Lindsey works in education.

When not at work, Joe enjoys time with family, video games, and playing Monopoly.  In fact, he has about 30 different versions of the Monopoly game.  He is also active with Matawan BSA Scouts.

Asked about his experience at WPS so far, Joe tells us, "Working in a school environment has been an exciting new adventure, and I anticipate many more wonderful years ahead with Watervliet. The best part about the job is knowing that the work that is done each day truly matters and that everything is for the benefit of the students who move through the halls. I could not have hoped to be part of a better team, and I am thankful for how quickly it has felt like a second family. As I settle into the position, my next goals are to get out to the different buildings and start building relationships with the staff I have yet to have the pleasure to meet. I am excited about what the future holds and want to thank everyone for the amazing reception I have already received."
