The Pledge of Allegiance.
On Friday, WHS held our culminating activity for Indigenous Peoples’ Week, and it was an unforgettable experience for our students and staff.
A heartfelt thank-you to Marley Alsup, her parents, and her little brother for sharing their cultural heritage with us through their verbal history and traditional Woodland dances. Their generosity in teaching us about the Pokagon Potawatomi people—on whose land we live today—was truly meaningful and deeply appreciated.
Students and staff loved listening, learning, and even joining in on the dance floor to try a new Woodland dance together. The energy, joy, and sense of community were incredible to witness.
Marley played a huge role in bringing this opportunity to WHS, and we are so grateful to her and her family for helping us learn, reflect, and celebrate throughout the week. 💛🐾

We’re incredibly proud of their hard work, positive attitudes, and commitment to giving back. This is Panther Pride in action! 🐾🍂
“Rake a Difference” is an annual community day of service organized by United Way of Southwest Michigan where volunteer teams help senior citizens with fall yard work—especially raking leaves and cleaning gutters. The event takes place across Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties and is designed to support older adults who may not be able to do this work themselves or afford help, while also preventing issues like water damage in the spring. Individuals, families, coworkers, and student groups are all encouraged to volunteer and make a positive impact in their community.

Today, one of our incredible students helped lead Good Things in Spanish — a beautiful example of both student leadership.
If you look at the photo, you’ll notice the students seated in a circle. This structure is intentional — it creates connection, strengthens belonging, and builds community, which is at the heart of our CKH work.
We’re proud of our students for stepping up, sharing their voices, and leading with confidence and kindness. Moments like this show exactly what makes WHS such a special place.

Today, our students and staff joined together in wearing red to honor and raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.
Across the U.S. and Canada, Indigenous women experience violence and disappearance at far higher rates than any other group. The color red has become a symbol of remembrance, visibility, and solidarity — reminding us that every life matters and every voice deserves to be heard.
We’re proud of our Panthers for standing together in awareness and respect as part of Indigenous Peoples’ Week and our commitment to Mno Bmadzewen — living in a good way. 🐾

🪶 Indigenous Peoples’ Week
On Thursday wear orange to honor Indigenous children who were taken from their families and forced to attend residential boarding schools across the United States and Canada.
For many decades, Indigenous children were removed from their homes, their language and culture were taken away from them, and many of them never returned. Wearing orange is a way to remember those children, to support the healing of families and communities, and to say together:
Every child matters.
Every culture matters.
Every story matters.
So tomorrow, wear orange to show respect, awareness, and solidarity.
Let’s continue to learn, listen, and live in a good way this week, Panthers. 🧡🐾

Braids hold deep meaning in many Indigenous cultures. They represent the mind, body, and spirit woven together, showing balance and unity. Braiding is often done with care, gentleness, and good thoughts, making it a way to honor one’s identity, culture, and connection to others.
Wearing braids today is a gesture of respect and solidarity — a way for us to learn together, acknowledge the living traditions of Indigenous peoples, and celebrate culture in a positive and meaningful way.

At WHS, student leadership happens every single day — not just in big moments, but in the voices, choices, and courage of our students who step forward to lead our community. Today was a beautiful example of that. 💛
🎙️ Morning Announcements were led by senior Giovanni Ayala, who shared our daily message in both English and Spanish — honoring the languages and cultures represented in our school.
🎺 TAPS was performed with care and respect by Gianna Berry in honor of Veterans Day, reminding us of the power of gratitude and remembrance.
🪶 And as part of our Indigenous Peoples’ Week, shared the Word of the Day in the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi language, Lilliana Kirby teaching us how to greet one another in a way that honors the original people of this land.
These are the moments where Capturing Kids’ Hearts shines — where students share their voices, support one another, and help create a school culture rooted in respect, identity, and community.
We are so proud of these student leaders and grateful for the example they set. 🐾❤️
📸 See the photos attached — and join us in celebrating their leadership!
