Patricia VanAntwerp holds a star with some text. We can read "Nominee, Patricia VanAntwerp"

Watervliet Public Schools is proud to announce that one of our own, Patricia VanAntwerp, has been recognized as a nominee for the Berrien RESA Parent Advisory Committee's Excellence in Education Award.

Mrs. Van, as she is commonly known, was nominated by Jennifer Graves and Kristin Bruce, a Berrien RESA School Psychologist and Teacher Consultant who provide services for our students and work closely with the staff here in Watervliet.

In their nominating letter, the pair say that "Patty has a knowledge of the nuts and bolts of learning how to read that allows her to understand a child’s unique needs. She uses this understanding to design interventions to address these students’ needs exactly where they are struggling. Patty keeps meticulous records of student progress and adjusts instruction based on how a student is responding. When Patty shows up to an evaluation planning meeting, she is prepared!  Not only does she have data for the team; she knows the student’s likes/dislikes, patterns of engagement, and types of behavior they may display.  Patty has a passion to see every child learn how to read."

Although Patty was not selected as the award recipient, we at Watervliet Public Schools are proud to have such a professional, caring, passionate, and all-around excellent staff member serving our students at North School.

Congratulations on your nomination, Mrs. Van!
