YOUR SEPTEMBER 2024 SENIOR STUDENT OF THE MONTH --AMBER ROBBINS!!
I have 2 older brothers and 2 younger sisters. Both my brothers are marines and my dad owns Ray's Towing. I'm very proud of my family, especially my mom. She is smarter than pretty much all of us and is the glue in our family.
My favorite class this year is welding. I weld the first 2 hours of the day and it is always so much fun and starts my day off right.
My favorite teachers this year are Mr. Dimino and Mr. Steele. Mr. Dimino is really good at what he teaches and he's always positive. Mr.Steele is one of my funniest teachers and always keeps class interesting.
I am on the Debate Team. This is my second year on the Debate Team and this year I am serving as the president on our team. I'm extremely excited for our state debate.
In my free time I like to read, practice welding and hangout with friends or family.
After high school I plan to find an apprenticeship in welding, get my career started and hopefully move further up north.

Boys Varsity Soccer beats Our Lady of the Lakes 5 - 1. After 30 minutes of gameplay, Aaron Alvarado was able to break the deadlock after striking the ball via a cross from Emmett Williams. Moments later Adrian Hernandez would score the second for the Panthers after hitting a powerful right-footed shot into the corner of net. Emmett would score a goal himself before the half ended to give the team a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, JT Isbrecht would add a pair of goals to his name both assisted by Adrian. With the 5-0 lead, the rest of the game served as an opportunity to rotate players into the lineup and try different positioning for others. The home side would get a goal back late in the game.
The team will take on the Bulldogs of Covert at home Monday for a 6pm kickoff. Come out and support!

Wayland Union Debate hosted the annual Legislative Debate Day for students, coaches, and teachers from across the community on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Debate Day cultivates a culture of academic scholarship grounded in speaking and listening by utilizing the legislative debate format. Together, students create pathways for critical thinking, civic life, collaboration, and caring while having a lot of fun along the way. The day included a meet and greet with coaches and debaters and two breakout sessions designed to enhance their knowledge of debate before ending the day with their first West Michigan Legislative Debate League Meet.
Over 80 students, coaches, and teachers attended the afternoon event from the following schools: Caledonia HS, Ionia HS, Watervliet HS, Grand Rapids City and Wayland Union HS. While Watervliet's team made a great effort to participate, only one of them was able to give a speech, and that was Amber Robbins, who placed 4th. Debate Day is the product of collaboration with the West Michigan Legislative Debate League and the community of coaches.
Yesterday evening, Watervliet Soccer Team played their second conference game of the season at home versus Bridgman. Despite dominating the first couple minutes and taking the early lead. Fatigue from Monday’s performance along with the heat would take a toll on the team as the game went on. In spite of the hot conditions, the team pushed through the entire game and take the win 5-3. Adrián Hernandez would finish the game 1 goal and 2 assists, Tyler Kuehl would score 2 goals, Larry Perez would score 1 goal, JT Isbrecht would score 1 and have two assists and Emmett Williams would add an assist to his name. The team will look to make it 3 wins in a row as they travel to Our Lady of the Lake this Saturday for a 11am kickoff.
