Luke Isbrecht took to the mats on the State's biggest stage this weekend, wrestling in the Individual State Finals at Ford Field in Detroit. He fought hard in the first round, losing a tight match 3-5 against the 4th ranked wrestler in his division and weight class. Luke bounced back in the second round, defeating his opponent by score of 15-5. Unfortunately he was unable to win his third match of the day, and his season (and high school wrestling career) ended Friday evening. Luke finished the season as one of the top 12 wrestlers in the State of Michigan for the D3 126 pound weight class. Great job Luke!
After school detention will be TODAY and Wednesday (not Thursday) this week.

Look who's off to the State Wrestling meet at Ford Field! Congratulations Luke! WHS is proud of you!


Last Saturday, students from across the district dedicated their day to helping build the set for our "Moana Jr." musical. It's coming together wonderfully, and we can't wait for the show to open on Friday, March 14th!





For their last project, students in the sculpture class went big! Drawing inspiration from the large-scale works of artist Claes Oldenburg, they teamed up to create cardboard and paper sculptures, which they then installed around the school for everyone to enjoy.

He will be leaving the high school at noon on Thursday for Detroit. Thursday evening is weight in. Friday morning he will compete! CONGRATULATIONS to the members of Treble and Concert Choir on your fantastic performances at District Choral Festival yesterday! Both choirs received Division 1 ratings! Way to go, choirs!
The Panther Varsity Girls Basketball team ended the regular season with a victory on the road at Black River tonight, 47-37.
Pacing the Panthers this evening were Moeko Crago with 10 points and Riley Preston with 7. Also scoring were Isabella Bultema 6, Daijahnae Hatcher 6, Aubrey James 4, Courtney Van Lente 4, Leila Liberto-Taylor 4, Natalie Van Lente 3, Alyssa Brown 2, and Marissa Lowell 1.
The Panthers finish the regular season at 9-13 and now shift their focus to the district tournament. Watervliet is the #2 seed and will play Bangor at Bangor High School on Wednesday, March 4th at 7:00pm.
The JV Lady Panthers clawed their way from 1st quarter woes to defeat Black River 38 -34. Scorers were Katelynn Kostrzewa 12, Miranda Lowell & Emma Owens 8, Hailey Adams 5, Ava Thomas 3 and Gianna Berry 2. The JV Ladies ended their winning season 15 -4. From Coach Jake: “Great season ladies, great work from everyone. I had a great time coaching this team with many memories. Good luck on your spring sports.”

Watervliet Boys' Varsity Basketball got the 71-56 W on the road in a hostile environment Friday at Fennville. The Panthers battled back from an 8 point halftime deficit with a 26 point 3rd Quarter. Junior point guard Jacob Pleyer scored a career-high 38 points including 7 threes, while junior guard Caleb Jewell had 9 and senior guard Jacob Querfurth added 8 in the victory. Watervliet got tremendous defensive energy from seniors Owen Epple, Carson Underwood, Logan Schaefer, and Gavin Collins to get the win. Watervliet ends the regular season 11-11 and moves forward to face Coloma next Wednesday in the MHSAA district tournament.

Approximately 150 outstanding students have been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at Van Buren Tech! At Van Buren Tech, we take pride in our students' accomplishments. Next Tuesday evening at 7 pm there is a parent presentation from the Van Buren Tech Center. All 9-11th grade students and parents are invited to attend to learn more. Meet in the media center.
Next Wednesday is an early release and students are permitted to wear pajamas to school.
Next Thursday are parent teacher conferences from 4-7 pm. Parents and students should come together, enter on the cafe side of the building and can meet with any and all teachers.

Good Morning Watervliet Panthers!
Today is Wednesday February 19th. My name is Chaz Hart and I am your Wednesday morning announcement reader.
Today’s lunch is crispy chicken on w/g bun, loaded baked potato w/wg dinner roll, cucumber slices, strawberry cup
There are no birthdays today.
There is no vo tech today in the afternoon. If you cannot leave the building, you must remain in the media center for the remainder of the day.
A reminder that WHS is a closed campus, that means that students are not permitted to sign out and come back later in the day. If you sign out to leave the building and you are not signing out because you have an appt., you cannot come back to school later in the day. Students who have 3 dual enrolled classes in a row are the only students permitted to leave in the middle of the day.
Additionally no students are allowed to leave the cafe during lunch to enter the halls. If you think you need to leave the cafe during your lunch hour, you must have a note from the teacher for where you are headed to show an adult in the cafe before leaving.
The Boys' Varsity Basketball started out slowly as Our Lady jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead. However, the Panthers turned up the defense and rolled to a 66-42 victory at home. Junior PG Jacob Pleyer led all scorers with 19 points while junior guard Caleb Jewell scored a career-high 18 and senior forward Emmett Williams added 14 for Watervliet. The Panthers got tremendous defensive efforts from seniors Jacob Querfurth and Carson Underwood. Watervliet will close out the regular season this Friday at Fennville.
The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team won their 3rd straight game Tuesday night, knocking off Our Lady of the Lake, 43-25. Leading the charge in the scoring column tonight was Daijahnae Hatcher with 11 and Leila Liberto-Taylor with 7. Also scoring tonight: Courtney Van Lente 6, Moeko Crago 5, Isabella Bultema 5, Riley Preston 3, Natalie Van Lente 2, Aubrey James 2, and Keira Tremblay 2.
The JV Lady Panthers defeated Our Lady of the Lakes 49 - 19. From Coach Jake-“The team played well from the tip-off, as we only had 8 ladies for the night. They stayed out of foul trouble and everyone played great overall.”
The ladies are back on Thursday as they take on Fennville @ 5:30 for their final home matchup of the season. Scorers were Katelyn Kostrzewa 16 points, Ava Thomas 10, Kelsie Gaston 6, Hailey Adams 5, Gianna Berry & Emma Owens 4 each and Katelyn Brown 2.

Good Morning Watervliet Panthers!
Today is Monday, Feb 17th. My name is Alyssa Brown and I am your Monday morning announcement reader.
Today’s lunch is hot dog or chili dog on Wg bun, cheesy broccoli, fresh cut melon, romaine ribbons
There are no birthdays today.
The Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated the visiting Coloma Comets at home on Senior Night this evening, 44-26.
The Panthers held the Comets scoreless in the first quarter and led 10-0 going into the 2nd. The Panther defense intensity continued in the 2nd as they held Coloma to just 6 points and led 21-6 at the break. Coloma started to find its groove in the second half but timely Panther baskets kept the game out of reach.
Pacing the Panthers on the night was Courtney Van Lente with 15. Also scoring for Watervliet was Moeko Crago 7, Riley Preston 6, Leila Liberto-Taylor 5, Isabella Bultema 3, Natalie Van Lente 2, Addie Smith 2, Aubrey James 2, and Daijahnae Hatcher 2.
The Lady Panthers are next in action on Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake in St. Joseph. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
The Boys' Varsity Basketball gets the big rivalry win on SENIOR NIGHT 62-58 over Coloma. Junior PG Jacob Pleyer led the Panthers with 18 points while senior Owen Epple came up huge with 9 of his 13 in the 4th Q, including the go-ahead 3 with under a minute. Senior Emmett Williams contributed 14 points for the Panthers including 2 FT to seal it with a second left. Junior Caleb Jewell had 9 of his 10 points in the second half, as Watervliet clawed back from an 18 point deficit. Senior guard Jacob Querfurth played tremendous defense throughout and seniors Logan Schaefer, Tyler Asakevich, and Gavin Collins all contributed to the victory.
Six Panther wrestlers hit the mats this weekend, with their sights set to moving onto the State Tournament in two weeks. Luke Isbrecht won his first two matches of the day, punching his ticket to Ford Field. He finished the day in 2nd place, giving him a great starting position in the State Tournament. Ayana Marshall, Brooklyn Woollett, and JT Isbrecht each earned a victory as well, but fell just one win shy of moving on.

On Thursday February 13, the Freshman Lady Panthers fell to St Joe Bears 25 -24. Scorers were Gianna Berry 10 Points , Ava Thomas 6, Miranda Lowell/Katelyn Brown 4 each.
JV Lady Panthers Beat the rival Comets 41-26 last Thursday. Scorers were Miranda Lowell 11, Katelyn Kostrzewa 10, Hailey Adams 6, Kelsie Gaston & Emma Owens 5 each and Gianna Berry 4.
