Softball
The Watervliet JV Panthers swept Decatur 14-4 in both games Thursday to finish the season 18-2. In Game 1, the Panthers erupted for 11 first-inning runs as Layla Klimkiewicz earned the win with seven strikeouts. Aiyanna Forrester drove in two runs, while Olivia Lurkins, Mattie Medlin, and Gianna Berry added hits in a game highlighted by 13 walks and seven stolen bases.
In Game 2, Klimkiewicz led the offense with an inside-the-park home run and four RBIs in another 14-4 win. Brooklyn Woollett earned the victory and added two hits with three RBIs, while Sophia Rader drove in three runs as the Panthers capped off a strong season of growth and teamwork.
Soccer
The Watervliet Girls Soccer team battled hard in a District-opening loss to Hartford on Thursday. The Panthers controlled possession for much of the match behind strong play from freshmen Stephany Villarreal, Alex Zuniga, and Andrea Ortega. Despite a few defensive miscues, the young Panthers showed confidence, teamwork, and determination throughout the game and season.
