🏅 Sports Update

The Watervliet Varsity Girls fell on the road at Bridgman Thursday night, 39-29. The Panthers played well defensively, holding the Bees to 16 first half points and trailed by 2 at the break. Bridgman pulled away in the third, taking a 10 point lead into the final frame. The Panthers battled but ultimately couldn’t overcome the deficit. Scoring for the Panthers on the night were Daijahnae Hatcher 11, Miranda Lowell 7, Moeko Crago 3, Leila Liberto Taylor 3, Isabella Bultema 2, Hailey Adams 2, and Addison Smith 1. The Panthers fall to 6-9 on the season. They are back in action on Saturday at home against the Red Arrow Raiders. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30pm.

On Thursday night, the JV Lady Panthers traveled to Bridgman to take on the Bees. Panthers are looking to avenge their 4 point loss earlier this season at home. Both teams at the start of the game came out with a defensive mindset as 12 combined points were scored in the first quarter in favor of The Panthers. The Panthers took a 7-5 lead into the 2nd. The Panthers would have their strongest quarter this game with a 13-4 second quarter, in which they would take a 20-9 lead into half. The Panthers would cool off offensively in the 3rd quarter as Bridgman was attempting to stage a comeback. The Bees cut into the deficit as the Panther lead would be 25-17 heading into the final quarter. Defense, finishing, and confidence was the key components in the 4th. Bridgman got within 3 with under 2 minutes remaining.

The Panthers were defensively locked in all game but needed to finish to prevent a comeback by the Bees. Panthers would seal the deal after a missed shot by the Bees with 10 seconds remaining and would run time out. The Panthers  emerged victorious 30-27.

The Panthers are back in action as they host Red Arrow Raiders on Saturday at 4pm

Pledge of Allegiance

At this time, please stand. The privilege of this day is made possible by those who have fought and continue to fight for the freedoms we enjoy. Please place your right hand over your heart and remove your hat if you are wearing one.

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands; one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Those are all of our announcements for today. Have a great day… or not, Panthers—the choice is yours.
