Welcome to 5th grade! I hope you had a great summer! I can't wait to get to know all of you! I see many of you attended Open House. I hope you enjoyed seeing our room.
School Starts Soon!

Pline’s Points of Interest

  • Math – We are using the new, updated version of the Everyday Math this year.  All resources and books can be found online at

Students will be given Log-in information this week.

  • Switching Classes – Your child switches to Mrs. Morse for Social Studies. Every day from 10-10:45, they go to her classroom for instruction. Be on the lookout for green folders Thursday nights.  There are DG quizzes every Friday.
  • Gym – is on A DAYS
  • Music – is on B Days
  • Library –is on C Days
  • Computers – is on D Days
  • Reading Counts – I require each student achieve 10 reading counts points per calendar month.  For every ten points (up to 100, then it will be one per 20 points) they reach, I give them a Homework coupon, which allows them to skip a homework assignment.
  • Progress Notes – I try to send home an updated progress note every Wednesday.  Those are a great way to stay up to date on your child’s performance. Later in the year, we will be opening grades on Powerschool.
  • Late Work –In fifth grade, we are working toward students being responsible for their own work.  Anything not turned in by 8:10 is considered late. It can still be turned in, but the completion of work category for that subject will go down.  Any assignment not turned in by the next Monday becomes a zero.
  • Planners – We will be filling out planners at the end of every subject.  I will check that they are filled out once or twice a week. If you would like me to sign your child’s planner every day, please let me know; otherwise, I will not be signing each one individually.
  • Discipline – I try to be fair and consistent. 5th grade is using the following procedure to deal with students who are not respecting themselves or others:
    • Warning – Name on board
    • Loss of 1 recess – Checkmark
    • Loss of 2 recesses and write note home – 2 checks
    • Office visit – 3rd check.
  • The best way to reach me is through email

1st week

Our 1st week has gone well. The students and I are getting to know each other, and figuring out our routines.  I am excited to see what the year brings.

Welcome to 5th grade!
I'm Mrs. Pline, your teacher for the year. I'm looking forward to working with you and having a great year.  I have been teaching for 21 years, 19 of them in 5th grade!  I am from South Haven and graduated from WMU.  I am married to Steve and have 2 children, Cole and Allison.  They both attend WHS, and keep us very busy. We recently got a new puppy, Indiana.  He is very cute and very naughty!
