Congratulations to the five staffers who have recently retired from Watervliet Public Schools!  All were recognized at the July Board of Education meeting for their service to the district.  Each retiree was presented with a Golden Apple Award to commemorate his/her years of service.  The 2020 retirees are:

  • BetsyAnn Briggs – BetsyAnn was hired in 2015 in Watervliet. Betsy was a driver in other districts before joining WPS and served transporting students for 26 years.
  • Suzanne Griffith – Sue was hired in 1985 and taught early elementary children for 35 years.
  • Beth Houseal – Beth was hired in 1994 and taught HS Science, including AP Biology, for 26 years.
  • Linda Palmitier – Linda was hired in 1986 and taught Special Education students for 34 years.
  • James Winter – Jim was hired in 1992 and taught HS Social Studies for 28 years. He also coached several sports and led girls’ basketball teams to several district and regional championships.

These outstanding individuals added significantly to the culture of our schools and the education of our students.  Our staff, alumni, parents, and students have great memories of these staffers' time at WPS and appreciate their contributions in our district over many years.  Each and every one of them will be missed.  Congratulations once again on your retirements!
